Jeremy Hooper was the first to use the new same-sex marriage icon Facebook rolled out on Sunday. The writer, activist and author of the new book "If It's A Choice…" updated his Timeline over the weekend with his June 2009 Connecticut marriage to healthcare CEO Andrew Shulman with a photo of the happy couple, and a two-groom, cake topper-style image.
Before Sunday, gay Facebook users who wanted to indicate their marital status on the social network were relegated to the bride-and-groom, cake topper-style icon. The new Facebook icon choices — two grooms or two brides — allow gay newlyweds "to see themselves in the choices they make, and that means a lot," Allison Palmer, Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) spokesperson, told msnbc.com.
Hooper's Timeline update with the new icon was soon followed by that of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, who married Sean Eldridge on Saturday.
Facebook's new icons come two weeks after Apple updated its iPhone operating system with gay and lesbian emojis — texting and email emoticons — featuring same-sex couples and families. The support also extended to an unlikely corner of the Web last week, on Oreo’s Facebook page. The cookie company posted a six-layered, rainbow-hued Oreo cookie to Facebook and Twitter. Unlike the concept cookie however, the Facebook icons actually exist.
Palmer said the addition of the same-sex marriage icons is the latest in Facebook's support of the LGBT community. In February 2011, the social network added civil unions and domestic partnerships to relationship status options. In 2010 Facebook, GLAAD and other LGBT organizations created "Network of Support," the social network's initiative to combat cyberbullying and support LGBT teens. In June, Facebook received a GLAAD media award for its support of the LGBT community.
While gay marriage is now recognized everywhere on Facebook via the new same-sex cake topper icons, it's still only legal in nine of the United States, and even in those states, gay married couples don't receive the same tax benefits as heterosexual married couples. Still, the visibility offered on Facebook can help pave the way for more gay rights in the future, said GLAAD spokesperson Rich Ferraro.
"Facebook offers another platform where people can see same-sex couples are just as committed and loving as any couple," Ferraro told msnbc.com. "People can see photos of families and come to realize we deserve the same opportunities to love and take care of each other."
While the new Facebook cake-topper offerings "are just a small icon, young adults can see that they too can hopefully have that opportunity to love and be happy in their future."

Facebook icons still can't change the fact gay couples cannot be married. They can love and be committed as any man or woman, but they can't be married.

Anyway, the men who wrote your bible understood human sexuality only marginally better than they did electricity. What they didn't know is that it seems that human gestation is pretty complicated and that the mix of hormones and other chemicals in the womb sometimes (between 1 and 10 percent of the time; it is really hard to know exactly) produces humans who are sexually stimulated by and attracted to people of their same sex. We can accept that reality and be Golden Rule about it, or we can be complete jerks about it. You've made your choice pretty clear. More and more of us are choosing the Golden Rule route. Not too late, though, for you to open your heart and mind and join us. All are welcome. Big tent.

Little stuff like this make me consider ending my fb account. There's plenty of other ways to announce who you are with, but this is basically crossing the line. It's one thing for them to deal with the issue, it's another for them to go out of their way in support of it. Specifically, when it's not such a big issue that this is needed. The valid purpose of sex is reproduction, which is why human beings have external genitalia and internal reproductive organs rather than just a climax button. And, yes, God will forgive your sin if you REPENT (turn away from ) and ask forgiveness, but asking and then continuing to commit the same sin without turning from it is not forgiveable. I don't know what kind of Christian made that statement, but you must pick and choose your beliefs.

millions of others also but even if you want to compare many billions of people

homosexuality. China does not allow it legally (~1.3 billion people), India
does not allow it legally (~1.6 billion people), it is against Muslim law (more
than 2 billion people) and against Christian fundamental principles (about 500
million fundamental Christians globally).

Example is what you said about the lobster and shellfish ect ect being an abomination, and the word abomination when its used when talking about homosexuality. Your god never speaks against homosexuality except as a cleanliness issue in Leviticus.
This is an utter failure to understand the original interpretations of the Greek text. Paul does not use the Greek term for homosexuals, he uses a term that never existed before and has been interpreted to mean "pimp".
The word they use for both shellfish and male on male sex (it does not mention women) more appropriately translates to "unclean". Given that Leviticus was speaking to the cleanliness requirements of Jews, it makes sense. With that era's level of hygiene, such sex would be unclean, just as is "touching a woman on her period".

However, take note that most of the innovation in this country comes from liberal states and areas, and conservative states receive more from the federal government than liberal states. A division would be catastrophic for your hypothetical conservative only south.

There was a great batle of state religion between Henry and his sister, and sister going back and forth from Catholic to protestant, and back and forth. I can go into more detail of what lead to the puritans coming to america.
When we did come here, there was starting to be a struggle again of our puritan settlers trying to have their state religion as what they believed in, some where catholic, some were protestant. What our founding fathers did was make sure that government did do what england did and that was impose a State religion on the people. They could exercise what religion they had, but these will still all christian for the most part. The state was never meant to meddle with making a state religion but no where does it imply that people can not influence government with biblical thinking, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Our founding fathers came here not to find a state religion, but everything they did was influence by their belief in God.
So the state cant make a one religion for us to follow, but no where does it say that people cant bring religious views into government thinking. This society needs God to keep on thriving the way it has. THe more people keep abandoning it, the more you see our country going down the hole. I see this every day when I read the news, and see all the smut on tv, and disgusting standards of life people have lowered themselves to. I stand by a Government who believes in God, like our forefathers.

Nowhere in his commandments does he condemn homosexuality. In fact, nowhere does the bible condemn homosexuality, in the original text.
Here's an idea. Get government out of religion. That way, a church or other religious institution can define marriage as anything they want, and everybody else gets a "civil union."

If God wanted man to have same sex marriages or women to have same sex marriage it would have been Adam and Bruce or Eve and Lucy!!! Kris68, I did speak out against ALL things that are sin, and I did not label homosexuality specifically. Read what I posted, I pray for all sin that abides in all of us, including me. Actually there are thousands of case studies of animals in same sex relationships. Geese, penguins, Turtles even octopi. Many of these species enter lifelong relationships, essentially being married.

Laws should not be passed to uphold one religions view of right or wrong. To do so is a crime in our nation.

If you dispute that - you clearly believe that God has made a mistake - with 10's of millions of gay people all over the world - for all time. God's Word was written by man, but inspoired by Him through revelation. You are right, God did make you and he created you in the image of a man. He did not give you the desire, or attraction to be involved in homosexuality. The sinful nature of man gave that to you. When Adam and Eve fell in the garden, that is when sin entered the world. At this point man became separated from God and at this point all men (and women) were born into sin. I am quoting the "law" according to the bible because that is the example given as to why homosexuality is wrong. Romans 6:15 "What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means!" To me that says that just because you live under the grace, not under the law, doesn't mean you can abandon the law. Therefore, you must still strive to obey the laws.

First off, Jesus wiped clean the requirements of Leviticus for christians.
Second, Romans 1:22 does not speak about homosexuality. It speaks of worshiping other gods and of acting against one's nature. This translates to heterosexuals performing homosexual acts, and homosexuals performing heterosexual acts. After all, god made them homosexual, didn't he?

Dont use Levitical law to try and accuse Christians of Cherry picking what verses to follow. Read the phricken bible and understand that many of those old laws are no longer in effect! Christ came to fulfill the law, not always in the letter of the law, but in the purpose behind it. When Christ told us to turn the other cheek, he immediately struck down all letters of the law that were based on "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." That encompassed many levitical laws. That are no more since Christ. Also, Christ destroyed animal sacrifice as he was the final sacrifice and showed us that God is not pleased with the blood of animals. When Christ stopped the stoning of the Adulterous woman he made a huge statement about such things by saying; "Let him who hath never sinned cast the first stone." Christ taught us that Mercy Triumphs over justice. He also taught us that since he has come, that the old way was over. he called himself the "New Wine" and that one cannot put new wine into old wineskins because the old wineskins would burst. This was a metaphor about the old way and his new way of upholding the law by loving your neighbor as yourself and loving God with all your heart mind and strength.
So, think of these things before you mis-charachterize the bible with your references to levitical law in the future.

I use the King James Version because it hasn't been changed time and time again. It is the original English translation made from the original Greek and Hebrew writings. That is ONE translation. And I believe that God inspired the KJV the same as He inspired the original writings. It was not done to make money or make it simple. It was done to give the English-speaking people a Bible they could read. And the English-speaking people have done more to spread the Word of God around the world than any other language. You might say God had a vested interest in seeing that it was done right. So cut the crap about how much it has changed in all those years. It hasn't.
